PB&J - Upgraded



PB&J - Upgraded

Ingredients:
2 slices of sprouted, whole grain or gluten-free bread
1/4 cup fruit
raw, unfiltered, local honey (optl)
1-2 Tbsp almond butter
raw cacao powder

Directions:
1. Smash fruit with a fork, mixer, blender, chopper, etc. (Add 1/4 tsp honey if fruit is tart.)
2. Toast bread if desired.*
3. Spread fruit mash on one piece of bread and almond butter on the other piece of bread.
4. Dust the almond butter and/or fruit with raw cacao powder.
5. Close sandwich and enjoy!

Notes:
  • By creating your own "jam/jelly," you can significantly reduce the sugar in your sandwich and ensure you are getting the freshest fruit possible! 
  • Choosing a "PB" substitute that is organic, minimally processed, low in added salt, etc can also help ensure your sandwich is feeding your body, not harming it.
  • Cacao adds a bit of fiber, antioxidants, and magnesium - along with a yummy chocolatey flavor. This one ingredient can help reduce depression, minimize menstrual cramps, balance cholesterol, and more!



* I like to toast the bread because it makes the almond butter more creamy AND because it gives the sandwich a crunchy texture, eliminating my "need" for chips on the side. Yin&yang - creamy and crunchy!
